Caravan of Despair for chamber ensemble and live electronics (Contralto, flute, clarinet, guitar, percussion, viola, cello)
EXPERIMENTAL STUDIO, Freiburg, Germany, May 2011
The piece sets simultaneous streams of sound into motion, with the subtle transformations of timbre and gesture. In certain moments, these sound streams are continuing independently. In other moments, they share the same space, create a sort of collision. These collisions create an evolution through awareness.
Caravan of Despair is inspired by the poetry of Tajik-Persian poet Jalaliddin Rumi:
“Come, Come Whoever you are
Wanderer, Idolator, Worshipper of Fire
Come, even though you have broken your vows a thousand times
Come and Come yet again
Ours is not a Caravan of Despair.”
